Vaginal Burning

The vagina is a part of the reproductive system of woman. The vagina is usually moist because of the secretions produced by vestibular glands found on the labia of the vagina. And it is due to this moisture that there is a high probability of yeast cells, bacteria and virus growing in the vagina to bring about vaginal burning.



What is vaginal burning
Vaginal burning occurs when there is a change in the balance of all the organisms found in the vagina. Vaginal burning is actually found in three different forms - through yeast infections called Candida vulvovaginitis, because of bacterial infections through bacterial vaginosis and through parasitic infections through trichomonas vaginitis.

Besides these reasons, vagina burning is also caused through some forms of STD like Chlamydia or gonorrhea. Infections of the cervix like cervicitis also tend to result in vaginal burning, while viral vaginintis arises through human papillomavirus or herpes which can induce vaginal burning in a woman.

It has also been found that some allergic reactions and irritations that may arise through chemicals have a possibility of producing vaginal burning. Older women may find themselves to be more prone to vaginal burning because of the hormonal changes that take place along with menopause. This condition is called atrophic vaginitis.
Antibiotic can cause vagina burning too
Women who are on antibiotics also experience vaginal burning because these antibiotics cause a change in the balance of organisms found in a normal vagina. You know you are suffering from a vaginal infection that may bring on vaginal burning obviously when you have genital or vaginal itching.

When you find that there is a change or increase of vaginal discharge which may be gray, yellow or green colored, you know that you will be suffering from vaginal burning. With vagina burning, you find that your vagina or genital area is generally red and swollen. There will not only be vaginal burning, but also vaginal or genital pain.

With vaginal burning, you find it rather difficult to urinate as you tend to burn while urinating. You also find that there is a foul vaginal odor associated with vaginal burning. You may also find it rather difficult to have intercourse as you will experience pain or bleeding during intercourse with your partner.

Once you experience these symptoms, it is necessary that you consult your health professional to know the exact reason for vaginal burning. Pregnant women too should have consultation with their physician before doing any home remedies as some vaginal infections may prove to be fatal to the fetus. Different causes for vaginal burning need different types of treatment. Physicians usually prescribe some cream for application and some antibiotics. However, some cases may also call for antibiotic pessaries for inserting in the vagina.
