Labia Majora is part of female genital

It is only through reproduction that human beings can produce off springs, and continuity of the human race. Reproduction takes place with the mating of the sperm and an egg; which are produced in the reproductive systems of human beings. The labia majora is basically a part of the reproductive system of women.

The reproductive system of women is divided into the external and internal structures; wherein labia majora is a part of the external structure of the reproductive system. The area constituting the external parts of the human female reproductive system is called vulva. The external reproductive structures of the woman basically serve two purposes; it helps sperms enter the body and it provides protection to the organs constituting the internal reproductive system. The protection it offers is basically protection from infectious organisms.


What is labia majora
The labia majora are basically made of skin and adipose tissue which are lip-like in structure. They extend to both sides of the vulva of the woman, and on attaining puberty, they get naturally covered by pubic hair. When a woman stands, or at least has the legs together, the labia majora provides protection to the other parts of the vulva by either entirely or partially covering these parts.


The outer skin of the labia majora is the same color as the overall skin color of the woman. Of course there may be a slight variation in the color; but the inside skin is usually either pink or brownish. The general appearance, size and color of the labia majora of a woman differ amongst women. When a woman is sexually aroused, the labia majora generally becomes engorged with blood. At the same time, there may be some slight swelling in the area, along with some darkening and reddening in color.

The labia majora are usually referred to as large lips and are comparatively large and fleshy. They can be compared to the scrotum of males. You can find glands that secrete sweat and oil in the labia majora. These aprocrine sweat glands and sebaceous glands secrete secretions to the inner parts of the labia majora wherein you find lubrication and moistening in the vulva. It is only with this moistening and lubrication that it is possible for a woman to enjoy sex. Without this moistening, sex would be quite painful to the woman.

There are many women who today resort to labia piercing to enhance stimulation during intercourse. Women pierce either the labia majora or labia minora or both. Piercing is done in symmetrical pairs to provide for better stimulation to both the male and female during sexual intercourse.


The piercing in labia majora usually take about 4 -6 weeks to heal; and it is better to avoid contact during this healing period so that healing is faster, and have a lower possibility of any complications occurring. The piercing of labia majora is more painful than labia minora piercing as there is more of tissue to be pierced through. Rings are the usual jewelry worn during genital piercing.
