What is Kegel exercise

It was in the 1940’s that the gynecologist Arnold Kegel developed Kegel exercises. The reason for developing Kegel exercises was because he realized that his female patients experienced urine leakage problems after giving birth. Their life was also disturbed because of weak muscles. In old age, women also developed uterine prolapse due to weak muscle tone. So to help solve all this, Kegel exercises were developed, which are used to control urinary incontinence, strengthen pelvic floor muscles and enhance pleasure.

What is pelvic floor

The pelvic floor muscles are strengthened through Kegel exercises. The muscles are like a sling from the pubic to tailbone. It encircles the vagina and anus in women and stretches from the bottom of the penis to the male anus. The best way of identifying the right muscles is by stopping urine flow while urinating.

Kegal is just relax and contract the pelvic floor muscle

The relaxation and contraction of these pelvic floor muscles, without the involvement of other muscles, forms a repetition of Kegel exercise. These contractions and relaxations should span for five seconds and should be done in batches of ten repetitions, thrice a day. On mastering this, the holding time can be increased to ten seconds. An alternative is performing quick Kegels with rapid contractions and release for fifty counts. Kegel exercises can be done while standing, sitting and lying down.

Different way to kegel

Kegel exercises are great for the prevention of uterine prolapse. In uterine prolapse, the organs tend to slip from their locations because of weakened pelvic floor muscles and the ligaments that get overstretched by supporting these organs. Kegel exercises are not only effective in preventing uterine prolapse but also they help in the early stages of prolapse.

Benefit of kegel

Kegel exercises also help in preventing urinary incontinence. There are different types of incontinence - urge, stress and overflow incontinence. All these lead to uncontrollable leakage of urine either because of constant urges, sneezing, coughing or incomplete emptying of the bladder. Kegel exercises prove to be the best when the incontinence is mainly due to weak pelvic floor muscles which women generally develop because of childbirth.

Today, Kegel exercises are found to be most effective in enhancing ual pleasure in men and women. Kegels are re-enactments of the contraction and relaxation of pelvic floor muscles that the woman experiences on having an orgasm. So the stronger the muscles are, the better will be the orgasm. In case of men, Kegel exercises make the pelvic floor muscles strong, and give stronger erections which stay for a longer time.

Kegel for man

Kegel exercises are also great for men experience premature ejaculations because regular routines of Kegel exercises gives the man greater control over premature ejaculations. So Kegel exercises, if done properly, prove to be very beneficial to both men and women.
